Box Office Preview: “Ralph” to Win Third in a Row as Box Office Slows Down

There are no major releases in what is traditionally one of the slowest box office weekends of the year, as most people are too busy gearing up for the Holidays. This leaves the top spot to once again go to Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, as the top 10 is expected to consist of the exact same movies as last weekend.

In its third weekend, Ralph should bring in around $15.5 million. The sequel has not been having great holds, but is still a moderate success.

Ralph‘s underwhelming legs can partially be attributed to the fact that The Grinch has been having amazing holds over the course of its run, as it is going to end up in second place again, now in its fifth weekend of release. In fact, it will actually not be too far behind Ralph, bringing in $11.3m.

Creed II will take third place again. The sequel is looking at around $9.5m in its third weekend as it closes in on $100m domestically.

Fourth place will be Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which is looking at around $5.9m in its fourth weekend.

Bohemian Rhapsody is set to spend its sixth weekend in the top five, an impressive feat. The biopic, which just picked up Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture- Drama, and Best Actor- Drama for star Rami Malek, should make around $5.8m for the weekend. It has a chance to take the fourth place spot if it holds better than anticipated, or if Beasts has a particularly rough drop.

Outside the top 10 is the moderate re-release of Schindler’s List, on its 25 year anniversary. The classic is being released in 1,181 theaters, but is unlikely to enter the top 10, as its main priority is being made available for high school classes. Additionally, The Favourite is expanding from 34 theaters to 90, following back to back weekends with the highest per theater average. Green Book is adding some more theaters, which should help it hold a bit better, and three Oscar hopefuls are debuting in single digit theaters- Vox Lux, Ben is Back, and Mary Queen of Scots.
